Building Based Student Support Team (BBSST)

Building Based Student Support Team or BBSST is a school-based, problem solving approach to meeting the needs of at-risk students in the regular classroom setting.
Team members discuss issues related to specific needs of individual students and offer assistance to the teacher in resolving these problems.  The team is composed of regular classroom teachers, the counselor, and the principal.  When additional support is needed special education and ESL teachers also participate.  This team pools their expertise from many areas to help resolve many school and student issues.  Using this collaborative approach, educators are given the opportunity to address concerns and fins solutions.  Through the team effort, referrals to programs outside the regular classroom can be significantly reduced.  Educators can receive immediate support when confronting specific academic, social, and/or behavioral concerns regarding students.  This quarter we are monitoring those students who were placed in a grade due to age or those repeating to insure their success. These students are currently receiving support from our reading and math intervention teachers, as well as extra daily instruction from their classroom teacher.  Next quarter, we will continue to monitor and assist these students as well as others who are experiencing academic or behavioral problems.  We are now planning our after school tutoring that will begin in October.  Students who meet the criteria described above will be offered an opportunity to attend.  More information will be sent home later.
